Writer: Shameka ReedShameka Reed

Greg L. Durrell, AIA, is the state’s first black architect to not only be born and educated in Mississippi, but operate his own company. Founded in 2013, Durrell Design Group, a full-service architectural firm, creates unparalleled, state-of-the-art spaces.

The Vicksburg native earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2004 from Mississippi State University. After graduating, Greg worked as an intern architect for a firm in Tupelo, Mississippi, for three years, where he was promoted to lead designer and project manager. Later he accepted a position with JH&H Architects.

Greg has led the design and production of several notable projects totaling more than $100 million in the metro Jackson area.

A strong Christian faith and a belief in promoting change through building wealth and community empowerment is evident in his approach to work.

Greg and wife Nita are the parents of two daughters, Addison Grace and Ariel Faith.
